What we learned from Google’s Digital Garage and how it can be applied to your financial marketing

Google’s Digital Garage is a great lesson plan that can be tailored to your requirements by choosing relevant modules. As a Creative Artworker my knowledge predominately sits offline, so I explored the digital content to understand in more detail what our digital marketers conduct behind the scenes.

The course ‘Online Marketing Fundamentals’, covered subjects such as search, email, social media, display video, e-commerce, geo-targeting and analytics. It provided insight as to why a digital presence is so important. How your customer/clients behave online, when they use it and how you as a business fit into that world.

Make your mark

Create a footprint on the web in as many places that are relevant to your clients. The more you can feature where they visit online, the more you can build brand awareness, stay front of mind and increase sales.

Get noticed

Look at various ways to promote your business online:

  • PPC (pay-per-click) could help increase your traffic by paying for search ads to get your business to the top of searches.
  • SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) involves tagging keywords and content relevant to your target market on your website. This is a long term plan to generate leads.
  • Display advertising on Google’s Display Network focuses on driving traffic to your website by capturing the attention of potential customers as they are browsing other, relevant websites.

Connect through email marketing

Stay in touch and keep your marketing presence in the forefront of your customer’s minds.

Check what’s working for you

Use analytics to see what’s working for your business and focus your efforts in those areas that work for you. Bear in mind that the same thing might not be a success every time. So always come back to your analytic tools to keep an eye on change.

Liven things up

Vary your content online using many different mediums, try a how to video or an infographic – people are drawn to visual content.

Have a voice

Content marketing can help develop a stronger brand identity and connect further with the right audience.
